BHU Certification Service

Form BHU-01 Application

The primary certification application form required by the Buildings Department (BD) for Basic Housing Units. We complete every section and prepare all supporting attachments.

Authorized Person Certification Report

Certification reports from a registered architect, structural engineer, and building surveyor (building surveying discipline).

Structural Assessment Report

Where load-bearing structures have been altered, a structural assessment report from a structural engineer is required.

Mechanical Ventilation Assessment Report

Technical ventilation assessment for each subdivided unit, with accompanying ventilation system drawings.

Buildings Department Liaison

We liaise with the BD on your behalf, handling supplementary document requests, re-inspection arrangements, and responses to technical queries.

Certificate Delivery

Upon issuance of the BD certificate, we deliver it to you in person and assist you in establishing a post-certification compliance file.

Common questions about the certification service

Can certification be renewed after it expires?

Certification is valid for 5 years. A renewal application can be submitted within the 6 months prior to expiry, and the required documents are similar to the initial application but less extensive. We will remind you to begin renewal preparation at the 4.5-year mark.

What if the Buildings Department requests supplementary documents?

We handle it. In the early stages of the BHU certification scheme, the BD may sometimes request additional documents or a re-inspection. Our service fee covers liaison and document follow-up within a reasonable scope.

What does the certificate look like?

It is an official document issued by the Buildings Department, stating the unit address, certification validity period, and certifying person. You should keep it in a safe place and note the certificate number in your tenancy agreement.

Can multiple units be applied for at the same time?

Yes. Multiple units owned by the same landlord within the same building can be submitted together, which reduces certain document costs.
